April 17 to April 26 , 2000
We moved to Prince RV Resort in Tucson, AZ. It is a very nice resort with a pool and spa, nice bathrooms and showers and good laundry facilities. We have a nice shady patio with a large picnic table. We will be able to spend time in the evenings outside as the weather is pretty nice now. We do not have much planned to do until my brother and his wife arrive May 1 to visit. We will see the attractions while they are here. Around mid April we will begin looking for a new to us motorhome. We decided since this is our home we should have it a little comfortable and bigger. This Georgie Boy has served us well but it’s time to spread out a little. On April 25 we purchased a 2005 Gulf Stream Crescendo. It is beautiful, more spacious, a diesel and more than we ever dreamed we would have.

March 17 to April 16
We are in Benson, Arizona and the wind is still blowing. I think we must be bringing it with us. We plan to just stay at home until the weather is better. It is also much cooler than normal. On our first Monday, March 20, we drove to Tucson which is about 45 miles away. Gene needed to get his prescriptions filled and thought we would buy some groceries at Walmart but this Walmart was not a Super Walmart. We drove over to a mall, had lunch there and just walked around checking out the stores. On March 23 we drove to Sierra Vista then on to Bisbee. Bisbee was founded in 1880 and was a booming mining community with one of the richest mineral deposits in the world. At one time it was the largest city between St. Louis and San Francisco. When the copper mines closed down in the mid-1970’s everything changed and Bisbee nearly became a ghost town. Hippies seeking an escape from the city found inexpensive housing and easy living in then quite Bisbee. They vowed not to let the town die and built it into a unique Victorian little town filled with ex-miners, artists, writers, jewelers, musicians, world travelers and others. In 2005 it was voted one of the Top 10 Best Quirky Towns to Retire to in the USA. We walked the streets downtown and agree, it is quirky and it is filled with all kinds of artists. When we left Bisbee we drove to Tombstone, one of the Wild West’s best know places. Here Wyatt Earp, Doc Holiday and Big Nose Kate all walked the streets during its wild and wooly heydays of the 1880’s. The “Fight at OK Corral” is reenacted there each day. Today several blocks downtown offer a mix of history, shopping and family fun. Tourists stroll the boardwalks to see the real life places they’ve seen in motions pictures and read about in books. Along the streets are hitching posts where horses are tied and the local people dressed in period costumes stroll the streets. Horse drawn carriages give people a ride and the driver tells some of the history of the old town. On Wednesday, March 28 we drove through the Texas Mountains on our way down south to Douglas and on across the border into Mexico at Agua Prieta. We would not recommend crossing the border there. Many of the businesses are closed and there is very little to see and do there. It is very different from the other border towns we have been in. It seems like the tourists have quit coming there and the life of the town is gone. It was kind of a wasted day except for some beautiful rock formations we saw as we traveled through the Texas Mountains. While in Sierra Vista we spotted a flea market so on Saturday, March 25 we went back there to the flea market and also purchased a Dish 500 satellite dish so that we can receive the network channels via satellite. Saturday, April 1 we drove to Tucson to a flea market. This is one we had been to last year but this year many of the merchants were not there. It was not nearly as fun as others we have been to. Maybe we have seen the best by now. We went to Red Lobster for a great lunch and then checked out some RV parks for our next home base. We just happened on one that was much better than what we had planned to look at so we are all set for when we leave Benson. When we first arrived in Benson we went by the Visitor’s Center as we often do when arriving at new location just to find out what there is to do and see in the area. While there we found out about a concert called “Dateline Rock and Roll” happening on March 31 and decided we would attend it. A few days before the concert we found out a little more about this concert. It was to be performed by a National Sign Language high school club from Tucson to commemorate National Deafness Month. This group of about 15 – 20 students organized, directed and choreographed the entire performance. Some of the students were deaf and some were not. The music was all recorded and the performers did the signing and “danced” as Rock and Roll music played with narration that depicted various datelines during the 50s. It was very, very good. The next night, April 1, we went to a family type movie at the club house, Just like Heaven. On April 2 a big caravan of Country Coaches arrived at the campground. These are some of the biggest and most expensive motorhomes made. It was awesome to see rows and rows of the beautiful rigs. April 7, Tim Wiedenkeller, a banjo player and guitarist played at the campground dance hall. He is nationally known and has done scores for orchestras and movies. He also sings and has a young lady who performs with him. He plays all kinds of music from classical to Mexican to African songs. He is very talented and it was a great performance. We really enjoyed it. Saturday night April 8 we saw another movie at the club house. Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. It is a good movie. I never could “get into it” when I tried to read the book. It has a good Christian story if you know what to look for. Tuesday, the 11 we drove into the country to an area which was supposed to have some gems. We did not find it but had fun walking in a dry creek bed and picking up some interesting rocks. I am thinking about purchasing a rock tumbler. It was a fun outing. During the days we seem to keep busy enough that we don’t get bored. Both of us do some reading and there are several TV shows throughout the day which we watch. We work around the house a little both inside and out and pretty much share with the cooking. Gene walks in the morning while I do some stretching exercises and we both walk in the afternoon. We seem, every other day or so, to need to make trips to the post office, grocery store and one of the three $$ stores in town. That is actually about all there is here for shopping. God displays his glory almost every night in the beautiful sunsets. Some evenings he lights up the sky with beautiful pinks and blues and sometimes golds and oranges. Thank you God. Saturday night we saw another movie at the club house, “An Unfinished Life” with Robert Redford. It is an excellent family movie. Today, Easter Sunday we went to church at the Baptist Church here in Benson. They have a wonderful ½ hour of praise and worship at the beginning of the service with wonderful music. The Easter message was clearly given. Thanks be to God for His Son. Monday morning we will be leaving for Tucson. We are ready to move on. There is nothing more here for us to see and do.
