5/23/05 to 6/1/05
We are now in Lynden, Washington staying at the Hidden Village Campground. We will be here for one week. We have some business we have to take care of before going across the border and need to wait until we get our monthly finances taken care of. There really is not much to do here so it will be a chance to catch up on things around the RV. One interesting thing we found in this area is that they grow raspberries here and also other fruits and vegetables. But the raspberry crops are huge, many, many fields of them. We have seen hundreds of acres. They are in bloom now. They also grow wild along the road sides. One could get their fill of them here. Lynden is a Dutch community. Fifty % of their population is of the Dutch ancestry. It is a beautiful town, very clean and decorated with many flowers and dutch design. On Thursday 5/26 we took a side trip to Mount Baker. This is the highest mountain in the area, over 10,000 feet. We can see the snow on it from our campground. It was a very pretty day. We could not get up to the summit due to snow cover but we were able to get some pictures of it from another mountain. We also were able to get pictures of Shucksan Mountain. There are several ski slopes on Mt. Baker. There are also several nice large water falls in the area. It was beautiful there and a great day in the mountains. The wonder of God’s creation is evident here. We were here over Memorial Day Weekend and Lynden hosted a Little League baseball tournament. On Sunday we went to the field to watch some of the boys play ball. Sort of a change of pace for us. Monday morning we moved to another campground, SeaBreeze RV Park, because our time was up at the other campground. It is not quite as nice as the other campground but it is close enough to Birch Bay that we can walk down to the water and walk along the beach. We will be ready to cross the border into Canada June 2. Looks like we will not have any cell phone service in Canada but we should have some in Alaska. We think we will probably spend about 2 to 3 weeks getting across Canada as there are several areas we would like to take side trips to and it is over 2,000 miles from the Canadian border to Alaska. We will try to pick up our cell phone voice mail so please call if you need to get in touch with us. We will send more of "Our Travels" when we get to Alaska.
