6 /3 to 6/6
We left Cache Creek in light rain and it rained off and on most of the morning. We stopped at Mt. Begbee Lookout which was built in 1923 to help detect forest fires. It was a short steep trail up to the top of the mountain. It was a nice view but since it was cloudy we could not see too far. But the walk was good for us and we did see several wild flowers that we had not seen before. We arrived in Prince George on Friday and stayed at the BeeLazee Campground. We wanted very much to tour a logging operation. Since they do not have tours on the weekend we stayed over through Monday. The tour we were able to go on is Prince George Pulp and Paper Mill, a part of Confor Corporation. The corporation has several mill across Canada and is the largest producder of wood products in Canada. This particular site exports most of its products to the U. S.
We followed the operation from the woodchips being unloaded to where the finished product is shipped out. They use saw dust shipped in from the saw mills to produce the energy to run the mill. It is a fascinating and lengthy process. On Saturday we went to a railroad and forestry museum. It was just a ho-hum museum. This is a large city but we could not find much to do here of interest to us. We did find a couple of parks for our daily walks and walked in there very nice mall.
