A wide variety of weapons were used here in subsequent years, from modern cannons to Nike missiles. Today the old batteries, some more modern than the one we describe, are still there. Though in disrepair, they are interesting and we found it a great place to visit. Also open for visitors is a museum and one of many officer family quarters, built in 1899 in Georgian Revival Style, but furnished as it would have been in WW II. At the end of the war, it was a reception center for troops returning from Europe. In 1945, at the peak of the activity, 12,000 troops crowded the post.
